Electrical Design Engineer

Overview

The Electrical Designer will form part of the Electrical Department and report into our Lead Electrical Engineer. When assigned to a Project, the role will involve the production of a wide range of electrical deliverables and will also report to an Electrical Engineer for that Project. It is vitally important that the candidate demonstrates an ability and mentality to fit in both with the electrical department dynamics and the overall OSL company ethos.

Responsibilities

  • Proven ability to liaise with clients and contractors/installation teams, on and off site.
  • Adhere to client applicable standards and processes.
  • Preparation of electrical engineering documentation, inclusive of drawings in AutoCAD format, electrical calculations, schedules, technical reports and risk assessments.
  • Ensure electrical design work and installation conforms to Standards, Regulations and Health & Safety.
  • Coordinate electrical documentation with that produced by other disciplines to ensure inter-discipline compatibility.
  • Provide necessary engineering inputs to other disciplines and departments.
  • Plan personal workload to ensure deliverables are met on time, on budget and in accordance with the Company and project HSEQ systems.
  • Ability to accurately estimate time required to complete drawings and documentation for a project.
  • Provide weekly project and workload progress updates to Lead Electrical Engineer.
  • Undertake site surveys on their own with or without client supervision.
  • Attendance of project meetings, both in office and on site, when required.
  • A willingness to always look for personal, company and system improvements.
  • Keep up to date with technical developments and design standards.
  • Able to travel to and from work on a number of client sites as necessary, inclusive of overseas and offshore.

Qualifications

  • Minimum HND/HNC in Electrical Engineering.
  • CompEx EX12 desirable.
  • Demonstration of Continued Professional Development (CPD).
  • Membership to a recognised professional body / Institute (such as: Institute of Engineering & Technology) or plans to join.
  • Engaged in or actively progressing Professional Registration.
  • Be prepared to gain Vantage Card, BOSIET and MIST to carry out offshore activities.

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years Oil & Gas, petrochemical or chemical design experience in similar role within an engineering consultancy or electrical engineering business.
  • Excellent working knowledge of BS7671: Latest Edition.
  • Good knowledge of electrical cabling and equipment.
  • Ability to manage workload and multitask as advised by Lead Electrical Engineer.
  • Ability to adapt to the requirements of multiple clients.
  • Design of solar PV, renewables and battery storage systems.
  • Self-motivated individual who can work effectively with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Have strong working knowledge of key electrical British Standards i.e. BS7671
  • Experience of providing ATEX compliant designs and good working knowledge of BS EN 60079 standards.
  • Read, interpret and create electrical design drawings.
  • Commercial awareness – understanding what impact design changes have on project time and cost.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Planning and organisational skills.
  • Ability to set own goals to motivate self in achieving such goals.
  • Good knowledge of Trimble (Amtech) Design calculation package.
  • AutoCAD literate with an associated CAD qualification preferred but not essential.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.
  • Must be AutoCAD literate with an associated CAD qualification preferred but not essential.
