IM Skaugen (IMS) already used their smaller Multigas Ships for Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) and wanted to also enter the Liquified Natural Gas business (LNG).
An opportunity for IMS arose when the Bahrain national oil company Bapco required a small land-based LNG storage facility sited on reclaimed land. The IMS philosophy to minimise land storage was to locate a storage ship offshore and then LNG could then be shuttled between the two.

Wingas Storage UK Ltd. (WSUK) own and operate the Saltfleetby Natural Gas facility near Louth in Lincolnshire. The gas from Saltfleetby is fed via pipeline to the nearby Theddlethorpe Gas Terminal, operated by ConocoPhillips, where the gas is combined with gas from offshore gas fields, processed and fed into the National Transmission System.

To meet new International Maritime Organisation rulings being introduced from 2012, vessels travelling within 200 nautical miles of shore will need to cut their fuel sulphur content by 98%.
OSL were engaged to develop new technology that can be fitted to existing ships and vessels to meet the new regulations.

OSL were requested by the largest independent Oil and Gas Company in Nigeria to develop a viable technical solution for a large (7600t) LPG receiving, storage and loading facility on a brown field site on the outskirts of Lagos.
The study was completed in less than 6 months with a multidiscipline project team based in the UK and Nigeria. Close contact was kept with the client in Nigeria to ensure that client’s requirements and expectations were met.

LNG FLSO Vessel and Onshore Terminal Feed Study

  • Location: Port Lavaca, Texas

OSL were commissioned to provide part of a FEED design for the Lavaca Bay LNG project, in Port Lavaca, situated between Galveston and Corpus. This consisted of one permanently moored FLSO with multiple connections to the onshore natural gas grid in South Texas. The designs needed to incorporate the potential for expansion and the addition of a second FLSO over time for a total production capacity of up to 8 MTPA.
