Project Blyth United Local Schools and Businesses

Over the last year we’ve worked closely with young students as part of Project Blyth. Organised by Greenpower Education Trust and funded by the Careers and Enterprise Company, the educational scheme saw thirty-three IET Formula 24 teams created across Hull and the Humber region.

With each school matched with a local business, a team of OSL’s engineers visited Sirius Academy North on numerous occasions to help the students create their race car. From offering advice and support, to hands-on activities that resulted in the design, building and ultimate racing of the car at the KCOM Stadium in July, the collaborative effort has been exhilarating and invaluable for all involved.

od of encouraging students to discover the applications of STEM subjects, the race day formed an important part of the Hull UK City of Culture 2017 celebrations. This cultural and academic partnership proved highly beneficial for both Sirius Academy North and OSL, with the exchange of ideas, in-depth mentoring and future opportunities being key focus areas.

Nick Jones, Principal Director at OSL, said: “We worked closely with Vaughan Curnow, Project Coordinator, and the teaching staff at Sirius North to ensure that the students got as much out of Project Blyth as possible. Building the car was a great journey for all of us involved and the race day at the KCOM Stadium was a perfect destination”.

Everyone at OSL would like to congratulate the organisers of Project Blyth, Sirius Academy North, and all of the other schools and businesses that made this impressive challenge a reality.
