The Running Man

Show lee bell

Lee Bell (pictured left) is a Senior Control and Instrumentation Designer working with OSL on the EKB Project in Germany, and he’ll soon be competing in the Edinburgh Marathon. Originally from Liverpool, on 26th May his rigorous training will lead to him taking on the twenty-six miles of tarmac in aid of Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice, which is based in his hometown.

Zoë’s Place offers palliative care for babies and infants up to five years old with life-limiting or life-threatening illnesses. The only baby-specific hospice in the UK, the charity provides specialist support around the clock, accommodating up to six infants at any one time.

“This is my first time raising funds for Zoë’s Place,” said Lee. “I chose it because it’s an essential organisation that makes a huge difference to the lives of many families, yet receives very little government funding.”

Requiring £1.3m per year to operate, and rising to £1.4m for the next financial year from July, the hospice constantly depends upon donations from individuals and businesses. Without these it would not be able to retain its play area, light sensory room, single and twin bedrooms, bathroom facilities, gardens and highly skilled staff.

Based in Germany each week, Lee returns to the UK for short breaks on a fortnightly basis, but wherever he is on a weekend he makes sure to fit in a twenty-mile run, sticking to his chosen Hal Higdon Training Programme.

Nick Jones, OSL’s Director and Engineering Manager on the EKB project, said: “We’re all very proud of Lee and his dedication to the cause, and knowing that our sponsorship of his place in the marathon will benefit such deserving children is heartwarming. We wish him all the best when the big day arrives."
