Table for Ten

Show osl 2

Ben Andrew and Sam Manalertsakul, two of our experienced Process Engineers, are members of the region’s IChemE committee. Numerous meetings have taken place this year, one of which was held at OSL, catering equally for the north and south banks of the Humber and provide a forum that leads to positive change, career development, networking and the opportunity to organise mentorship.

The success of these meetings led to the first IChemE annual dinner for the Humber region, which was held on the evening of Wednesday 27th November at the Forest Pines Hotel and Golf Resort in Scunthorpe, with over seventy engineers and industry professionals attending. OSL booked a table for ten members of the team, including Ben, Sam, Principal Director Alastair Robertson and Operations Manager Neil Barnard. Also in attendance were Senior Process Engineers Yoke Ling Lee, Graduate Process Engineer Jonny Elvidge, Assistant Process Engineers Abdullah Khan and Antoinette Magadi, and finally, Tofunmi Adelakun, who is with us on a Graduate Engineer placement. The tenth team member at the event was Graeme Trotter who, along with Ben, has just become a chartered Chemical Engineer under the IChemE.

Graeme was OSL’s first graduate and Ben joined with about a year’s experience from working elsewhere. Both are success stories about how our involvement with the IChemE’s Accredited Company Training Scheme (ACTS) has allowed aspiring engineers to succeed in their journey to become chartered professionals. OSL has always adhered to its HR policy of ‘attract, train and retain’, resulting in every member of the team realising and achieving their potential. Meanwhile, the company builds a homegrown staff force that incorporates our philosophy of Clever Thinking into every project. We are delighted that Ben, Sam and Graeme have recently accomplished so much as a result of their involvement with the IChemE.

As for the dinner, everyone very much enjoyed the stylish event and Judith Hackitt, President of the IChemE and Chair of the Health and Safety Executive, proved both welcoming and motivational as the evening’s guest speaker.

We would also like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to the IChemE for the many opportunities provided to OSL over the years – their contribution to the industry is nothing short of exceptional, and as such has helped to change the lives of many engineers for the better. We look forward to sharing further news regarding other budding professionals over the coming months.
