ONSHORE TERMINAL OPTIMISATION

BACKGROUND

BP required an offshore produced water treatment facility for one of their Southern North Sea platforms. A gas well connected to this platform cannot flow as it has significantly high water content and cannot be treated at the onshore terminal.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The produced water treatment had to be to a high standard so that the oil in water concentration was low enough to meet the legislation criteria for disposal overboard.

A short timescale was essential to allow the well to flow.

KEY ASPECTS OF DELIVERY

  • OSL needed to choose the optimal of three options. Research and design needed to be thorough whilst adhering to the tight timescale.
  • Limited space was available on the platform and the equipment specified could not be too large to affect the structural loading of the platform. This meant that the specified equipment had to be highly efficient.

CLEVER THINKING

Standard skid designs of packaged equipment were modified by working closely with vendors to help them reconfigure their design to meet the space constraints.  The equipment contained on the skid had to be assessed to ensure that it was suitable for the specific service.  This required the change out of some components but allowed an off the shelf unit to be utilised with minor modifications.
